Interoperability Effort Demonstrates Key Step to Removing Complexities, Ensuring Future Success of Wireless Offerings, Customer Satisfaction

STOCKHOLM, Sweden and WALTHAM, Mass., USA – August 31, 2010 – The advent of smartphones has enabled wireless operators to deliver new services and thousands of applications that increase consumer loyalty and attract higher revenue-generating subscribers. However, the proliferation of sophisticated wireless phones and other connected devices has added a new level of complexity for network operators. SmartTrust, a developer of SIM and Mobile Device Management (MDM) software for mobile operators, and Red Bend Software, the market leader in Mobile Software Management (MSM), today announced the completion of interoperability testing between their products.

This interoperability will enable operators of wireless networks to further improve the consumer experience by adding new features and applications over the air to handsets and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) modules used on current and future wireless networks.

The successful testing demonstrates how key elements of the continued rollout and upkeep of emerging wireless services must work together to enable operators to successfully address the ever-changing requirements of their networks and the consumers who use them.

SmartTrust and Red Bend completed Open Mobile Alliance Device Management (OMA DM) interoperability testing as well as a number of interoperability tests between a client and server demonstrating the ability to support operations including:

• A FOTA server-initiated update for firmware for a wireless device or module
• A FOTA client-initiated update for firmware

“The need for active customer service has become increasingly important as subscribers see today’s devices, particularly smartphones, as an extension of their lives,” said Marianne Arosenius, managing director, SmartTrust. “Subscribers of wireless service have great expectations. Ensuring that their mobile devices will reliably keep them connected to the services and applications they crave will lead to increased consumer loyalty to the service provider throughout the entire subscriber lifecycle. SmartTrust announces SmartàLaCarte GeoCast 1.0 Availability

SmartàLaCarte GeoCast enables the use of cell broadcast for SmartàLaCarte services. It is server based software with open APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) allowing easy integration to cell broadcast systems.

Release Highlights

The SmartàLaCarte GeoCast server allows you to send messages addressed to cells or geographical regions using cell broadcast providing an added dimension to your applications developed for SmartTrust Wib.

Support has been included for different addressing modes for regions and cells. A region is a predefined geographical area in the cell broadcast system. In the cell addressing mode, the message is sent to a specific defined cell as identified by its location area code and cell identifier.

A GeoCast API for development and deployment of applications using SmartàLaCarte GeoCast allows you to reach and interact with subscribers via services using SmartTrust Wib. Using the API, applications send messages using the different addressing modes and manage the geographical regions defined in the cell broadcast center as well as define custom regions.

SmartTrust WAC 4.2 integrates to SmartàLaCarte GeoCast server via the GeoCast API. This provides operators a common environment for live test of Wib applications regardless of bearer.
The message content may be either XML format or data. WIG WML is dynamically converted to wiblets by the server to take advantage of the advanced features of SmartTrust Wib 2.0. To serve subscribers using SmartTrust Wib 1.3 enabled cards with the cell broadcast extension, is the product can also deliver content as data that is used by card resident wiblets. SmartàLaCarte GeoCast even supports converting source language XML to satlets for S@T cards.

Simplifying integration with legacy cell broadcast systems in use by operators is a definition of WSDL (Web Services Description Language) interface used by SmartàLaCarte GeoCast. This GeoCast CBC (Cell Broadcast Center) API contains a number of generic operations that cell broadcast systems should support. The product has an off the shelf integration available to the cell broadcast system from the company One2Many.

SmartàLaCarte GeoCast provides an affordable mass distribution channel that can be used to reach your entire subscriber base or limit delivery to specific regions and cells. This makes possible deploying services that deliver more value to your subscribers when the content is location specific. Mobile Marketing for the Masses

SmartTrust Adwise is an operator-centric mobile advertising platform that reaches all subscribers concurrently in a uniform and consistent way, regardless of the handset model. It does not require a data subscription or any setup, installation or configuration by the subscriber.

Release Highlights

The SmartTrust Adwise product performs the placement of advertisements to mobile subscribers with a focus on using SmartTrust Wib as a client environment. Advertisements are placed using presentation channels. This first release contains two primary presentation channels - Call Terminated and SMS.

The presentation channel for Call Termination enables the display of promotional messages on a round-robin basis at the call termination event on mobile phones.

The SMS presentation channel delivers promotional messages via text SMS for display on the user device. Ad delivery via presentation channels may be scheduled for any future date.

Presentation channels are always aimed at a specific target group of subscribers. The product supports three alternate methods for target group selection:

Standard SmartTrust DP subscription groups
Lists of MSISDNs
Using database selection statements

All of these can be defined using the web based SmartTrust Adwise user interface.
Presentation channels are grouped into campaigns that form administrative umbrellas for the presentation channels and their scheduling. Every campaign is logically owned by an advertiser that is defined in the system.

SmartTrust Adwise builds on top of the state of the art SmartTrust DP platform for over the air communication with SIM and devices. The version required is SmartTrust DP 8.2. This version provides the required support for SmartTrust Wib batch operations using the SmartTrust component BOM and the SmartàLaCarte Universal Gateway.
