The mobile smart card platform, (U)SIM, has become a vital component of the mobile operator and subscriber relationship. The (U)SIM card has grown from its origins as the mandatory network authentication device for GSM to a valuable tool to enhance the user experience. Card based phone books, roaming traffic direction and dynamic menus for operator provided services are three examples of the added value provided to subscribers. However, with the evolution of more advanced handsets many are tempted to migrate user experience features into the handset from the (U)SIM.
