Roaming event detection is performed by existing or new SS7 probes in the operator network, or by other methods such as SIM based applications (SmartTrust WIB™ or Java applet).

The roaming steering is orchestrated by SmartTrust MDM Director, a configurable, event-driven workflow environment. It provides a solid platform for development and configuration of roaming steering logic, without the need for changes in the program code.
Sophisticated, extendable reports
The standard reports have been developed together with our customers, to meet common business needs of mobile operators. New report types and contents are easily created with the included Reporting Manager.
Informative messages sent to your roamers
Traditional welcome and farewell messages with static content, as well as dynamic information about, for instance, applicable roaming tariffs can be sent to roamers.

Challenge
Outbound roaming involves selection of a network. There are generally several networks with adequate radio coverage and a valid roaming agreement available for roaming subscribers. However, some are more desirable than others due to criteria such as subscribed mobile services, time of day, subscription type, subscriber category, handset model, roaming area and roaming agreement obligations. Operators normally select roaming preferences to ensure access to basic services like voice and GPRS, but not all subscribers use the same services.
Solution
SmartRoam enables SIM-OTA provisioning of roaming preferences and commands, based on real-time events received from the network. A telco-grade solution, it meets operators’ demands for service availability, operability and maintainability. Configurable Business Logic automatically evaluates received roaming events and executes the most appropriate action. These range from friendly welcome messages to timely updates of the (U)SIM roaming files. The roaming lists are dynamically updated, putting the prioritized networks for the subscriber’s present zone in the top positions. Even handsets not supporting the Release 99 standard can be managed.

Future
The vast majority of handsets in use are Release 99 compliant. Subscribers have ever higher expectations of service availability when traveling. And with the increasing diversity of travel patterns, a single standard roaming list cannot possibly satisfy all subscribers’ needs. Dynamic roaming management based on Release 99 is the most feasible and economic choice today, and will be even more so in the future.
