SIM and subscription On-Demand Activation
SmartODA allows operators to dynamically activate and provision the subscription and SIM card at the moment the subscriber goes active for the first time. This prevents costly resources from being otherwise tied up by inactive subscriptions and allows for better SIM card logistics, greatly improving the pre-paid and machine-to-machine (M2M) use cases for the mobile operator.
SmartODA manages subscriptions and generic profile SIM cards that are distributed, but not yet activated. When SmartODA detects that the generic profile SIM card is used for the first time, the subscription is created and activated. In this way, SmartODA removes the need for the HLR/AUC and other service platforms to handle subscriptions that are not yet used. This saves capacity and licensing costs.
Personal preferences
Subscribers may make selections from SIM-based menus during the activation process. The subscriber can, for example, search and select a preferred telephone number (MSISDN), choose preferred language and services, or replace a lost SIM as a part of the user dialogue. In this way, the degree of subscriber self-personalization increases and operators gain revenue and valuable customer data as well as reduce cost.
Based on the configuration of event-driven business logic in SmartODA and subscriber data such as subscription type and location, the subscription is created at activation. Parameters and files on the SIM card are updated according to the subscription. These parameters include IMSI, MSISDN, priority lists for roaming, SIM-based value added services (such as SmartTrust Wiblets or Java cardlets), customer care entry in SIM-based phonebook and Service Provider Name. The final subscription is provisioned in the business support system and the SIM card is updated over the air.
Automatic SIM Configuration
The operator comes closer to the concept of a single generic profile SIM card since SmartODA is able to configure the SIM with the needed subscription type at the time of activation. This reduces the different SIM card profiles and products required to be held in stock. The basic requirement is an OTA capable standard SIM.
SmartODA meets telecom grade requirements for critical processes with an architecture that supports site high availability, including hot standby mode of operation for extremely quick recovery and robust maintenance. The architecture supports geo-redundancy. The flexibility of SmartODA allows for a minimum impact on the existing technical and business processes.
